The 2010 Canadian Open Chess Championship is taking place on July 10-18th, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. 213 players are competing, the minimum prize fund is $32,000.

Top seeded is Pentala Harikrishna of India with 2678 elo points. Legendary Russian Grandmaster Evgeny Bareev (2664) is back in action, as second seed. There follows England’s GM Luke McShane (2623), who also made a comeback to competitive chess. GM Alexander Shabalov (2618) is leading the USA challenge, while Eduardas Rozentalis is exploring North America after winning the 3rd Magistral Ciudad de Asunción Copa Roggio in Paraguay.
