World Youth Chess: Bright Prospect For Indian Chess

The last few weeks has been hard for the Indian Chess fans with numerous disappointing performances from the former world champions Viswanathan Anand. But the young prospects of Indian chess made a mark at the recently concluded World Youth Championships in Greece.

India’s medallists at World Youth Chess Championships

India managed to win five gold medals along with three silver and three bronze medals making their performance the best among the countries. As no other country’s players managed to win multiple gold medals for their respective country. Gold came for India in the Girls U-18, Girls U-14, Girls U-10, Open U-14 and Open U-8 Categories respectively. The silver medals came in Open U-12, Open U-8 and Open U-18 categories. Here are the complete medal winners list.

Gold

M Mahalaxmi (Girls U-18), R Vaishali (Girls U-14), Rakshita Ravi (Girls U-10), R Pragnananda (Open U-10) and Bharath Subramaniyam (Open U-8).

Silver

Nihal Sarin (Open U-12), Dev Shah (Open U-8) and V Varshini (Open U-18).

Bronze

Vantika Agrawal (Girls U-14), Saina Salonika (Girls U-12) and Divya Deshmukh (Girls U-10).
