One of the questions I am most often asked is what is the secret to the success of SPICE? How are we able to produce talented young players year after year? How are our students able to win 2 World Championships, 4 World Open Championships, Olympiad Gold, and 44 national titles in the past 4.5 years at Webster University, which is more than all other collegiate programs combine? The real answer has never been revealed, until now.
In chess, it is important to learn the classics from Capablanca, Alekhine, Lasker, etc. Unfortunately, too many young players today simply rely on software like Stockfish, Komodo, Houdini, etc.
At SPICE, we do not take the oldies for granted. We have a library full of classical games from past legends, from Morphy to Carlsen and everything in between. We also have a lab full of classic computers which hold the deepest chess secrets. These are the computers which have not been seen by the public in 40-50 years. But do not let their age fool you. They can beat any GM on the planet, even unplugged. Their estimated ratings are well over 4,000, which is far better than any of the modern computer software.
Now you know our secrets. Never forget the classics and never underestimate the oldies!
