Quang Liem granted International Super-grandmaster title

VietNamNet Bridge – While playing very well at the Capablanca Memorial 2011 chess tournament in Cuba, Vietnam’s top chess player, Le Quang Liem gained higher Elo to enter the world’s 40 international super-grandmaster of chess.
This title is granted to chess players whose Elo is at least 2,700. Quang Liem is the 40th player in the world and the fourth in Asia winning the title.
At the 7th game of the chess tournament to commemorate late-chess legend Capablance, Quang Liem, tied with current U20 world champion Andreikin (Russia). After seven games, Quang Liem now takes the lead, with no failure, totaling 4.5 points.
Thanks to the records, Liem gained an additional 13.3 points to his Elo to have 2700.3 points and becomes the 40th super-grandmaster of chess in the world.
“I’m very happy to attain the title. It will give me more opportunity to participate in great chess tournaments in the world and to win new records and further, to struggle for the goal of becoming the leading chess player in the world in the future,” Liem said.
The Capablanca Memorial 2011 takes place in Havana, Cuba from May 9-21. The main event, called the “Elite Group”, will consist of six-players including grandmasters Ivanchuk, Perez, Navara, Bruzon, Andreikin and Liem competing in a double round robin. Three subsidiary events: the Premier, Open A and Open B will take place simultaneously.
Liem defeated fifth placed Perez during a sixth round match earlier.

Oh, come on. Super-grandmaster is not a “title” that is “granted” to anyone. Bad reporting.
