The 4th Bosnia & Herzegowina chess championship was held from 31st January until 7th February in Široki Brijeg. GM Bojan Kurajica, who once again settled on the BIH rating list, took off with a powerful start and scored 4.5 points from five games. But then he slowed down, allowing the local favourite IM Željko Bogut to catch him on the shared first place, as both finished with 6.5 points.

Bogut was awarded with the title of the BIH champion thanks to the better additional criteria, his second following the success in 2006. He also earned a Grandmaster norm.

Final standings:

1-2 IM Željko Bogut 2427 and GM Bojan Kurajica 2519 – 6½
3-4. IM Dalibor Stojanović 2473 and IM Boško Tomić 2414 – 5.0
5-6. GM Emir Dizdarević 2507 and IM Vlado Jakovljević 2407 – 4½
7-8. IM Atif Dumpor 2425 and GM Milan Vukić 2444 – 3½
9-10. IM Vitomir Arapović 2370 and IM Zoran Runić 2427 – 3.0

This was only the 4th national chess championship organized by the BIH Chess Union. Previously, champions were GM Milan Vukić (2005), IM Željko Bogut (2006) and GM Predrag Nikolić (2007).
