Chess: A Knight’s Tour: Boca to host senior chess event

Boca to host national event: If you are 50 or older by April 28, you will have an opportunity to play locally for a national title. The U.S. Senior Open is scheduled to be held at the Marriott Boca Center in Boca Raton from April 28 to March 3.

Five rounds of chess, followed by a final playoff game between the top two finishers will determine the champion. Trophies and titles will be awarded to six age groups, including “Over 75.” An awards banquet will feature a number of side attractions, including the annual convention of the Chess Collectors International and its displays and lectures. Four years ago, this tournament was in Boca Raton and World Federation Master Fabio La Rota of Miami earned the crown of U.S. senior champion.
