I was reading Don Schultz’s book the other day. It has some colorful insight on Fischer.
My favorite story was how he played 20 minute games til 3am in the morning when he had a final round match the next day. So he shows up to his 9am match with $3,500 at stake and falls asleep after move 3! His opponent could have let him sleep all the way through the match but in an act of sportsmanship woke him up. Bobby went on to win the match quickly after.
Wow !!! It is so cool that Bobby Fischer reads this blog!
I don’t think he does. He is not working on a comeback, that’s ridiculous on its own merits and excludes the realistic possibility that it is really Bobby Fischer. It was just another anonymous who had nothing better to do.
I hope you comment more or get a blog of your own! >>
As a special offer for being the first person to reply to Bobby’s post, I’m willing to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge, at the unbeatable price of only $2000. Offer good today only. Interested?
Bobby Fischer, me chess hero since I was a kid! Greatest World Champion Ever and still the Greatest! Never beaten in a match for World Championship or lost to Computer in match either! A true Chess Champion and all time Greatest Ever!
Big deal, I’ve never been beaten in a match for the world championship either. Fischer’s the only one who was afraid to play at all, so I’d say that puts him at the bottom of the heap of champions. All the others had the guts to put their titles on the line, even Euwe.
I do not believe he was afraid, he had (still has) serious psychological problems (paranoia), which prevented him from functioning normally. The USA will probably never have anyone better than him, because it’s not an ideal country for potential chess geniuses to be born in or to live in. Too materialistic, too superficious, too much expensive and stupid toys for kids… gameboys/playstations are the biggest ennemies of chess ! Even when the US gets a present from Russia (Kamsky), they manage to screw it. Probably the most talented chess player of his generation, better than Kramnik in his young years, but in the US he finally decides to attend law school and quits chess for 8 years !! He must have thought : I can make more money that way. Bobby was a complete self-made kid, he wasn’t a product of chess education structures, his personal discipline and obsession made him great. So, the US should be grateful to Bobby and hail him as a miracle.
64!! The magic number for chess players 🙂 Happy Birthday to Bobby. Ive always remembered it is his birthday because he was born 1 year and 1 day exactly after my father. march 9 1943
I find it sad that so many people feel they have a right to make fatuous comments whenever Fischer is mentioned, as if they knew him personally. Half the dimwits who have posted here weren’t even born when Fischer played Spassky in 1972. It’s not their generation and not their place to comment. Let’s face it, most of these kids can hardly spell, let alone analyse a world class chess players life. Show some modesty and respect your elders!

It would be nice if Fischer could publish a second chess book.
His first is an all time classic but it would be great to read his comments on some of the Karpov and Kasparov games.
Nice suit.
Happy birthday to the world champion, Bobby Fischer!

The world still loves you.
I was born April 1943 so pretty soon I will be 64 if I make it that long. LOL.
I am of course a life long Bobby Fischer fan. Glad Bobby got away from Japan and was accepted in Iceland.
Bobby was never afraid of anyone at chess.
