Youngs to help in making of Fischer movie
by Peter Atencio

JINKY Young, the nine-year-old girl claiming to be the daughter of chess legend Bobby Fischer, stands to receive royalties from a movie to be made about the late chess genius.

Jinky’s lawyer Sammy Estimo said his counterpart in Iceland had already received feelers from a Hollywood producer, who is in the process of gathering materials to be used in the Fischer movie.

“The lawyer we have in Iceland has been receiving calls from the producers. Pinupukol na lang siya sa amin dito sa Pilipinas. His (Fischer’s) daughter can get royalties from this,” said Estimo, who added that Jinky and her mother Marilyn Young have agreed to help in the making of the movie.

Estimo said he had been contacted by filmmaker Kevin MacDonald, who is piecing together Fischer’s story.

The plot of the story will center around Fischer’s championship match in 1972 against Boris Spassky of the then Soviet Union and the events which unfolded afterwards.

The film, which will have Spiderman star Tobey Maguire in the lead role, will be produced by Universal Pictures with Working Title Films as co-producer.
