Chess will be the subject of a citywide weeklong celebration in March, Lansing school and government leaders announced this afternoon.
The “Got Chess?” event intends to promote awareness about the game’s educational benefits by building on ongoing in-school lessons and the annual kids’ tournament.
“It’s all about what we can do to develop young minds,” said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, who is set for a chess match against Superintendent Sharon Banks during the spring program.
Plans also include pitting police officers against firefighters and the school board against the City Council.
