Congratulations to 13 year old Thalia Cervantes, a junior member of Webster University SPICE program! As someone who is ranked around #30 in her section, she just went 7/7 at Chicago Open to win $5,000 1st prize (under 2100 section)!

The SPICE junior team of Thalia Cervazntes (7/7) – Benjamin Shoykhet (tied for 5th with 5.5/7 to earn $420) also won the Chicago Open mixed double prize with 12.5/14!! For this effort, the two share the top $2,000 prize!!!

11 year old Ben Shoykhet just tied for 6th place in his 1st ever National Elementary School Championship earlier this month.

Last month, Thalia won the 2016 All-Girls National Under 16 Championship. Last year, she also won the 2015 SPF Girls’ (under 19) Invitational when she was only 12, and became the youngest champion ever to win a Webster University scholarship (value over $100,000!).

She became the first to win both titles! Another big title she won recently is the MidAmerica Open!
