The Thailand Open Chess Championship 2010 has attracted players from every continent.

More than 200 players from more than 40 countries including Algeria, Fiji and Venezuela are expected to take part in the April 14-20 tournament at the Century Park Hotel.

While there are players of all levels from juniors to club players and professionals, the event has attracted some of the world’s best players.

Grandmaster Nigel Short, who has won the British championship on several occasions, will return to Thailand.

“This year is special because we have attracted more players from more countries including more talented female players,” said Kai Tuorila, president of the Bangkok Chess Club.

Thai juniors such as Parinpat Angsuwarangsee are tipped to shine in the tournament.
