UNAM celebrates 100 years with strong chess festival

The National University of Mexico (UNAM) will celebrate 100 years anniversary with a strong chess festival. The main event of the Ajedrez UNAM festival is the Iberoamarican Championship that will be played 13 – 21st of November, 2010, in which 24 players from 23 countries will participate. Top seeded are Julio Ernesto Granda Zúñiga (2636, Peru), Eduardo Patricio Iturrizaga Bonelli (2609, Venezuela), Gilberto Milos (2599, Brasil), Rubén Felgaer (2597, Argentina), Marc Narciso Dublan (2553, Spain), Juan Carlos González Zamora (2564, Mexico), Paulo Jorge Guimarães Dias (2482, Portugal), etc.

On 17th, 18th, and 19th of November, the Cuadrangular Elite tournament will take place, with the participation of Veselin Topalov, Vassily Ivanchuk, Judit Polgar, and Manuel Leon Hoyos.

Kasparov and Karpov will also visit the UNAM festival to play a 20 boards simul.
