Black has no defence to B#h7 check. If K:h7 then we have fun with Qh5 check..Kg8 then the thumper..R#g7 check followed by Bh6 Check and the Re3 lift and the naked monarch is finished.
(If the king refuses the B on H7 then Qh5 with the same motifs.)
MM
I think…
1. B:h7+ K:h7
( 1. … Kh8 2.Qh5 +-)
2. Qh5+ Kg8
3. R:g7+ K:g7
4. Bh6 and Queen end Bishop white
dead the Black King
By stulzer
1. Bxh7 – Kxh7, 2. Qh5+ – Kg8, Rxg7+! – Kxg7, Qg5+ – Kh8, Qf6+ – Kg8 (Kh7, Re4), Bh6 and I don’t see a defence against mate.
I don’t know. My brain hurts. But my mouth is still moving. Plus there is only one horsey. I like horseys. Waaa.
Not sure I got this one, best I see is:
1. Bxh7+ Kxh7
2. Qh5+ Kg8
3. Rxg7+ Kxg7
4. Qh6+ Kg8
5. Re3 f6
6. Rg8+ Kf7
7. Rg7+ Ke8
8. Rxb7,
and it is queen, rook, bishop and change against 2 rooks and 2 minor pieces, which should be enough to win.
What to sacrifice? Rxg7+ or Bxh7+? Decisions, decisions… 🙂
1. Rxg7+ Kxg7
2. Qh5 f5!
3. Rxe6 Kg8 and white’s attack I think fizzles out. Any queen check can now be interposed with the queen.
So my sacrifice of choice is:
1. Bxh7+!! Kxh7
2. Qh5+ Kg8
3. Rxg7+! Kxg7
3. Bh6+! K~
4. Bg5+ K~
5. Bf6 and black cannot avoid checkmate on h8 (there might be intermediate moved required if the black king ends up defending f6, like Qh6+).
Declining the first sacrifice doesn’t help, as Qh5 is to follow anyway leading to almost the same mating pattern.
not an easy one…there are lot of options I think…difficult to find which is best. let me try:
I first thought 1.Rxg7+, but the variations are not good for white…black can escape…
1.Bxh7+ KxB (Kh8 is answered by Qh5)
2.Qh5+ Kg8
3.Rxg7+ KxR (forced)
4.Qh6+ Kg8 (forced)
5.Re3! (Bb2 is answered by f6)
5…Ne7
6.Rg4+ (otherwise black can play Nf5 to stop the check?)
6…Ng6 (forced)
7.Bb2 f6 (forced)
Now, white can play either QxN or RxN…black will lose his queen or get mated
I think it starts with Rxe6!
Qh5!?
1.Qh5! the only move is 1…g6 2. Bb2! threatening 3.Qxh7!-4.Rh5-5.Rh8 mate.
A)2…f6 3.Rxe6! fxg5 4.Rxg6+ +-
B)2…Ne5 3.Rexe5! +-
I think it’s enough !
Gosh! My variation is working with 3Rgxe5 but i didn’t see everything but 1.Bxh7+ was so simple I had the idea but i completely missed something pff!
1) Bxh7+ , Kxh7
2) Qh5+ , Kg8
3) Rxg7+ , Kxg7
4) Bh6+ and white wins in all variations
If the king takes the bishop everything is forced
Bxh7+ Kxh7 Qh5+ Kg8 Rxg7+ Kxg7 Qh6#
If the king goes to h8
Bxh7+ Kh8 Qh5 now black needs to protect g7 somehow to avoid the same ending. f6 Bf5+ Kg8 Bxe6+ Qf7 Qxf7#
Bxh7+ Kh8 Qh5 g6 Bxg6+ Kg8 Bxf7#
That’s what I get from doing the puzzles in memory. If the king doesn’t take the bishop just mate on h7 :p
Bxh7+ Kh8 Qh5 f5 Bxf5+ Kg8 Qh7#
1. Bxh7+
1. … Kh8
2. Qh5
2. … f6, most others
3. Bg6+ Kg8
4. Qh7#
3. … g6
4. Bxg6+
4. … Kg8
5. Bf5#
4. … Kg7
5. Bxf7+ Kf6
6. Rxe6#
1. … Kxh7
2. Qh5+ Kg8
3. Rxg7+ Kxg7
4. Bh6+
4. … Kf6
5. Qg5#
4. … Kg8
5. Qg5+ Kh7 or Kh8
6. Qg7#
4. … Kh7 or Kh8
5. Bg5+
5. … Kg8
6. Bf6 any
7. Qh8#
5. … Kg7
6. Qh6+ Kg8
7. Bf6 any
8. Qh8#
who is this Jack A. S. Slafferty guy? He seems to be a jerk.
1.Bxh7+ Kxh7
2.Qh5+ Kg8
3.Rxg7+ Kxg7
4.Bh6+ Kg8
(If 4….Kh7 5.Bf5+ Kg7 6.Qh6+ Kg8 7.Bf6+-)
5.Bf6+-
