1. Nxd5.
The black knight on f6, cant move due to Nh6+ and Nxf7 (or Qg4 and quick mate), so the pawn on d5 is free, and the threats to both e7 and Nh6 anyway becomes undefendable.

I am having a hard time finding anything better than this:
1. Nd5 Bd5
If black captures with the knight, then Nh6 is powerful: [1. …Nd5 2.Nh6! Kh8 (or 2. …gh6?? 3.Qg4 Bg7 4.Qg7#) 3.Qg4 Re8 4.Nf7 Kg8 5.Nh6 Kh8 6.Qd7 Re7 7.Qg4 with two pawns and a powerful attack]. Continuing:
2. Bd5 Nd5
3. Nh6 Kh8 (again, not gh6??)
4. Qf3 N5f6
5. Qa8 Ra8
6. Nf7 Kg8
7. Nd8 Rd8
8. Bf6 gf6
9. Rc4 and white will win the a-pawn, too.
I can’t wait to see the solution to this. I have to be missing something really good here.
Knight takes d5!!
poisoned knights…
Black will be either mated or his kingside pawn structure wide opened.
Kh8 fails to Nh6!!…
think Nxd5 pretty much opens it.
1. Nxd5 Bxd5
2. Bx5 Nxd6
3. Nh6+ Kh8 (otherwise mate: 4. Qg4)
4. Nxf7+…
nh6 h6
ne4
1.Bxd5 Nfxd5
2.Nxcd5 Bxd5
3.Qg4 Bf3
4.Nh6+ Kh8
5.Nxf7+ Kg8
6.Qe6 Bxd1
7.Nh6++ Kh8
8.Qg8#

Sheesh!! How the hell did I not see
1. Nd5 Bd5
2. Rd5!
?
Props to Cheska, and especially Lucymarie.
Rxd5 is not a good move..why would you exclamation a bad move..
my move on a previous problem Rxe5 was a great move and not one person is good enough to see that..
thats why getting any opinions from bad players means nothing..they dont have the ability to see a good move from a bad move..
Wolverine,
If your choice is between two mates, one 7 in moves total and the other in 5 moves, which do you think is the most precise and crisp? I remember the problem you got upset about, and the other commenter (pht, if memory serves) made a mistake in not realizing that your Re5 still led to a forced mate, but the way you jumped all over him was inappropriate. He was asking a simple question.
Oh, and in today’s problem under:
1. Nd5 Bd5
I challenge anyone to offer a better move than 2.Rd5 for white. White certainly has other options (hell, I got lost in them), some of which are less precise and crisp than 2.Rd5, and some probably win, too. However, 2.Rd5 forces the issues much more forcibly.
Rd5 doesn’t force any mate.. there is no mate in this position.. the only thing you can do in this position is gain material..
if you think there is a forced mate in this position you obviously havnt looked at the problem very closely..Rxd5 equilizes the material advantage..
instead of being up in material you now sac a piece for no reason… if your going to sac a piece at least have a reason to do it..
as far as my Rxe5 forcing a mate. my solution was better because after that the moves are simple to force the mate.. its not always how many moves force a mate but how much thought each move takes..
if i can force a mate in 7 moves and it takes one second per move that is better than forcing a mate in 5 moves where each move requires considerable thought and 5minutes per move..
considering my forced mate in 7 it was over right there when i made the Rxe5 move..any good player would have resigned immediatly after that powerful move..
more importantly my Rxe5 move really showed the power of attacking someones back rank and how it can be exploited to your advantage..
I was too late to make any comment. But
1Nxd5 Bxd5 2Rxd5 is very powerful. It threatens to destroy N at d7 a supporter of f6 and there is a veiled threat at black Q.
In Lucymarie’s main variation
8Rd1 comes as bolt from blue when some sort of a defence seemed to emerge.Black has a R extra.
If 8…. Qxd1
9Qxd1 and blck has 2 rooks for a Q.but white threatens Qd5-g8#.
9…. Nf6 10 Nf7# wins a R.If black does not move N but makes some move like
9…. Be7
10 Qd5 Nf6
11Qg8+ Rxg8
12Nf7# Smothered mate.
You can’t read, wolverine, that much is clear. I never once wrote there was a forced mate in this problem, not once!
The reference to mates in 7 and 5 was to the previous problem in which you were whining about how no one gave you any respect (a good way to get none, I might point out). Your line was a mate in 7 if I remember correctly, while the move Bg7+ lead to a mate in 5. That was what I was writing about. You really need to grow up. I have seen better behavior out of 8 year old children.
