The 79th Belarus Chess Championship was held from 12th to 22nd January in Minsk. Twelve players competed in the round robin tournament.

The top-seeded GM Sergei Zhigalko took a clear first place and claimed the title with 8 points from 11 games. Sergei repeated the success from last year when he won the Championship with the same score.

The 19-years old Vladislav Kovalev finished second with 7,5 points, while Andrey Zhigalko is third with 7 points.

Grandmasters Fedorov and Stupak were forced to withdraw in the middle of the Championship due to health reasons.
