MANILA, Philippines – World Chess Cup qualifier and Filipino Grand Master (GM) Oliver Barbosa hopes to continue his winning run when he competes in the 4th Odisha International GM Open Chess Tournament in India.

The tournament gets underway on May 29 and will run until June 5 at the Kiit University in Bhubaneswar in Kiit Road, Patia Bhubaneswar in Odisha, India.

“I hope my luck will continue, because I will be up against stronger and more season players,” said Barbosa.

Earlier this year, Barbosa has defeated a number of high-caliber opponents en route to an over-all fifth place finish in the 11th Asian Continental Individual Chess Championships last May 13 in Vietnam.

In that tournament, Barbosa earned the fifth and last slot to the World Chess Cup.

GM Mark Paragua is also joining the Odisha Open Chess Tournament.

After this tournament, Barbosa and Paragua are both scheduled to play in another GM Chess Tournament in Mumbai, India from June 7 to 15.
