Bhakti stuns Kruttika to help India B overcome India A

Kolkata, Dec 25 (PTI) Bhakti Kulkarni played the game of her life to overcome WGM Kruttika Nadig as India B came from behind to surprise India A in women’s section of the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship at Town Hall here today.

Besides Bhakti, a 17-year-old class XII student, other members of the team including captain Nisha Mohota drew with their respective opponents in the keenly contested fourth round match that India B won 2.5?1.5.

On the top board Nisha drew with Eesha Karwade, Mary Ann Gomes drew with D Harika, while Padmini Rout held Tania Sachdev.

“We came back from the grave, when everybody had given us up,” said Nisha Mohota after the game. “I had great faith in Bhakti and told her that she had to win her game today,” she added.

Vietnam snatched a narrow 2.5-1.
