The new president of the Association of Chess Professionals, Israeli grandmaster, Baku native Emil Sutovsky has given an interview about his new job, in which he spoke of the plans related to Azerbaijan too.

“Certainly, we have the plans of holding contests in Azerbaijan”, chess-news.ru quotes Sutovsky as saying “We will be working closely with the Federation. I think we will deal not only with tournament where the strongest will play but also hold some master classes to promote development of Azerbaijani youth. Azerbaijani land is traditionally rich in talents, many medals are won in children’s tournaments.

I am the patriot of Baku and Israel. Baku is my native city, I grew up there and I still have very many friends. When I come here, I always feel warm, I come here with a great pleasure. Certainly, the relations are warm”.

To the question whether in the future Emil may play for the national team of Azerbaijan, he said:

“I think that Baku has many talented players even without me. I got a hint that it would be good to transfer, especially after the Olympic Games in Khanty-Mansiysk, where I managed to play a very good result. But the issue has never been like that and I do not think it will ever be in the nearest future. I am playing for the national team of Israel, we have a very good team, especially when Gelfund plays for us. I think Azerbaijani chess have quite a bright future”.
