Douthitt takes 1st at chess tourney
February 7, 2009
Autumn Douthitt, an eighth-grader at Montgomery Central Middle School, went undefeated at the 2009 Murray State Chess Tournament held at the Curris Center, Murray State University.
This first-place finish is on the heels of Autumn’s other great finish at the K-12 Chess Nationals, which took place at Walt Disney World in December, where she finished second in her section.
Along with the help of her younger brother, Colton, a sixth-grader at MCMS, enough points were scored to bring home a second-place team trophy for the middle school.
A chess team usually consists of four players, but the brother and sister duo did well enough to beat teams with more players.

Autumn is a nice name. Summer is another one. I wouldn’t name my kid Fall and Spring.
