And the final point is that black hasn’t the time to play one of the moves he needs to prepare a mate and therefore only finds a series of delays (6 moves or so) before white plays Rh8#.
1.Bxf6!. Looks attractive, but fails in lines B >A-1….Bxf6.2.Qxf6.any.3.Rh8# >B-1….bxc3.2.Qh4! (Not 2.Qh6?.Bxf6! And the BK escapes as h8 is not safe for white!). >>B1-2…Bxf6.3.Qxf6. The correct solution is Nd5!!. I will post the complete solution shortly.

But I believe white can better 2. Move here
Dear pht,After 1.Qxf6 Kf8 2.Qxf7+ Ke8 there is nothing wrong with 3.Rh8+ Kd7 4.Rxc8 after which if you like you can play safe by 5.axb4 but there is a trap in 4…. Rxc8 5.Bb5+ Qc6 6.Qxc6+ wins Q.still you have choice of playing safe by 7.axb4 So black has to take with Q or K which I have not analysed as there seems to be no sharp variation.
This is “either I mate you or you mate me”:
1. Bxf6! bxc3 (any better?)
2. Qh6!!
The point here. Bxg7? was too slow and loosing.
2. … Bxh6 (otherwise Qxg7#)
3. Rxh6 Rxb2+
4. Kc1
And the final point is that black hasn’t the time to play one of the moves he needs to prepare a mate and therefore only finds a series of delays (6 moves or so) before white plays Rh8#.
Qxf6!
Queen takes f6 and you can resign
queen takes f6 forces resignation.
I spotted the move 1.Qxf6 instantly (after opening the site at 8.40 A.M.here in India)but the solution is already published.

Harry
Dear pht,
You were the earliest bird but could not catch the right worm.
I do regret my big mistake here:
1. Bxf6?? bxc3
Nothing helps for white here, this is lost, since Qh6? is now of course answered with Bxf6! (as usual it was not enforced to take the offered queen).
About Harry’s idea 1. Nd5?, this is clearly better than 1. Bxf6?? but doesn’t look too good either. The situation looks unclear to me.
The good move simply has to be:
1. Qxf6! Kf8
None of you have looked as far as to guess on a replay from black here, leaving the solution somewhat incomplete.
It is enforced to give up Bg7 and start evacuation of king to d7 here, since anything else is now mate in one or two moves.
2. Qxg7+ (only reasonable move to look at) Ke8
3. axb4 (looks safer than Rh8+)
and white is nicely up with material and wins.
Dear pht,After
1.Qxf6 Kf8
2.Qxf7+ Ke8 there is nothing wrong with
3.Rh8+ Kd7
4.Rxc8 after which if you like you can play safe by 5.axb4 but there is a trap in
4…. Rxc8
5.Bb5+ Qc6
6.Qxc6+
wins Q.still you have choice of playing safe by 7.axb4 So black has to take with Q or K which I have not analysed as there seems to be no sharp variation.
