I don’t see how black can avoid mate, save with ruinous loss of material, after 1. Re1 cutting off a flight square for the king
I would go with 1.Re1 with mate threat 2. Nxh7. I don’t see how black can escape.
One tricky way to escape mate is 1. Re1, Be4 2. Rxe4 Qxe4 3. Nxh7ch, Ke8 4. Nf6ch, Ke8 5. Nxe4 Re8 6. a4 and whites dominant rook and king side pawns should win easily.
white will not only escape, but win glorious by combining mating and promotion threats:
1.nxh7+ ke8
2.nf6+!
a)2…kd8
3.h7 qf8
4.h8q with mate to come (e.g. 4…qxh8,5.rxh8#)
b)2…kf8
3.re1 (threatening mate in 1 by nh7#)
3…be4
4.nd7+ ke8
5.h7! and white wins
greetings, Vohaul
1. Re1 Be4
2. Nxh7+ Ke8
3. Rxe4+ Qxe4
4. Nf6+ Kf8
5. Nxe4
If 5 … Re8 then
6. Rg8+ Kxg8
7. Nf6+ K moves
8. Nxe8 and the pawn h promotes !
promotes except if 7. … Kh8 of course.
1. Rhxh7 Be6 2. Rxb7 Bg8 3. Rh8 Qe7 4. Rxg8+ (4. Rxe7? Kxe7 5. Rxg8 Rxg8 6.Nxg8+-+) 4… Kf7 5. Rxe7+ Kxe7 6. Rxa8 +-
