FIDE Grand Prix Tournament in Jermuk, Armenia

Welcome to the homepage of the fifth in the series of six Grand Prix tournaments held over two years culminating at the end of 2009. Jermuk, Armenia is the host locale for this Category 19 event which will see local star Levon Aronian try to make it three victories in a row after convincing first place finishes in Sochi and Nalchik and thus earn the right to play in the 2010 qualification for the right to challenge the World Champion. Other participants, of course, have other ideas as the rest of the chess world looks forward to the start of one of the most important events of the year, held in Armenia on the occasion of World Champion Tigran Petrosian’s 80th anniversary.
