Chess Palace to be built in Armenia

President of Armenia, President of the Chess Federation of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan received the President of the International Chess Federation, President of Kalmikia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and his delegation.

Serzh Sargsyan noted with appreciation that every visit of the President of the World Chess Federation to our country marks the start of a new program. He said it’s high time to call to life the agreements reached during the 38th World Chess Olympics in Dresden.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov once again congratulated President Sargsyan on the brilliant victory of the Armenian team in the Dresden Olympics and added: “Achieving champion’s title is difficult, but keeping it for the second consecutive time is twice as hard. It evidences that an acting system has been established.” He welcomed the efforts of the Armenian authorities targeted at the development of chess in the country, noting that “there are serious results, when there is serious attention.”

President of the world Chess Federation presented the steps FIDE takes in the direction of development and popularization of chess. In this context the interlocutors discussed the idea of building a Chess Palace in Yerevan, which was generally approved. Reference was made to the preparation of the international Grand Prix championship to be held in Yerevan in August.
