MANILA, Philippines – Grand Master (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. and International Master (IM) Rolando Nolte of the Philippines settled for a truce in their 11th and final round assignments in the 9th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Chess Festival and Blitz Open Championships.

The two Filipino chessers shared top honors in the event, held last August 19-23 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Antonio drew with GM Eldar Gasanov of Ukraine, while Nolte split the point with countryman and GM-elect Ronald Dableo.

Antonio and Nolte both tallied 9.0 points in 11 outings. But Antonio took the championship trophy by virtue of a higher tie-break points over Nolte.

GM Richard Bitoon routed compatriot National Master Ali Brazuela to notch 8.5 points, good for a share of the 3rd to 7th places.

Bitoon was in the company of Gasanov, Dableo, IM Awam Wahono and Fide Master Anjas Novita of Indonesia.

The Filipino campaign in the Malaysian chess circuit is backed up by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
