Russian Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin repeated the last year’s success and clinched another trophy at the Norway Chess super-tournament after concluding the race with 6,0/9 points, leaving the World Champion Magnus Carlsenhalf a point behind.
The final round was rather dramatic as Carlsen pressed against his former trainer Simen Agdestein in an attempt to catch up with the leader. Agdestein held the ground in an equal position before going astray shortly after the time control.
Meanwhile, Karjakin played an excellent game with black against Fabiano Caruana’s over-stretched English setup. The passed a-pawn decided the outcome and the Russian deservedly took the top prize.
Alexander Grischuk won the all-Russian derby against Vladimir Kramnik to finally reach the third place.
Final standings:
1. Karjakin Sergey – 6
2. Carlsen Magnus – 5,5
3. Grischuk Alexander – 5
4-5. Caruana Fabiano and Topalov Veselin – 4,5
6-9. Aronian Levon, Svidler Peter, Giri Anish and Kramnik Vladimir – 4

Most of the players will be moving to Dubai for the 2014 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships.
Karjakin is good.
Nakamura would have been tied for last place had he joined this tourney. Smart move for him to skip this one
