Angola Makes Its Move
Jun 04, 2010
We received the exciting news from the beautiful capital city of Luanda. Our thanks to the illustrious Dr. Aguinaldo Jaime and the Angolan Chess Federation. The entire Karpov2010 team looks forward to working with them to develop chess at every level in Africa.
The Angolan chess tradition has thrived under Dr. Jaime’s guidance. And no wonder, considering his impressive credentials. The former Angolan Minister of Finance was also president of the African Investment Bank and later, Deputy Prime Minister. We look forward to benefiting greatly from his knowledge and experience.
Angola recently hosted the CUCA BGI International tournament in Luanda, won by IM Robert Gwaze. Lamentably, Angolan star IM Aderito Pedro was felled by the flu during the event. You can read more about it here at the excellent Chess Drum website, which covers an impressive range of African chess news, among other things.
It’s impressive to have the support of Angola. Congratulations to team Karpov. May you win by a landslide.
How much did team karpov pay angola? many stories going around that karpov is promising sums of money from fide’s coffers for national championships of those countries that vote for him in the election
Anonymous #2: It seems like YOU are the storymaker around here. Do you have a full day job posting anti-Karpov comments on chess blogs?
