Anand is fourth in latest FIDE rankings

New Delhi: Indian grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand has been ranked fourth in the latest rankings published by international chess’s governing body, FIDE, on Wednesday.

The top player list updated bimonthly shows the Indian having a rating of 2799, trailing the top-ranked grandmaster Magnus Carlsen from Norway by 36 points. Meanwhile, Levon Aronian of Armenia with 2820 rating points is second and Vladimir Kramnik, of Russia is third with 2801 points.

The next best Indian in the list is Krishnan Sasikiran, who is ranked 38 with 2703 rating points, while Harikrishna, P . is the only other Indian in top 100 at 71st rank with 2678 rating points.

Meanwhile, in the women’s section India’s Koneru Humpy with 2589 points is ranked third in the list which is lead by Judit Polgar of Hungary with 2709 rating points while Yifan Hou of China with 2639 points is ranked second.

The FIDE nations rating list is topped by Russia (2744), followed by Ukraine (2697) and China (2661). India is ranked ninth.
