Match for the title of world champion should play the two best players in the world, which is not the case here. This will be totally uninteresting match, and the winner is obvious. The game of chess is definitely a loser…
No way we can count Gelfand out. He came second in the 2007 tournament,where Anand became World Champion. He won the 2009 World Cup. There was a time when Gelfand,Kramnik and Anand were regarded as players with the best chance to win a World Championships. Anand and Gelfand know each other well,and their match will not be ‘one way street’. In other words Gelfand is a worthy challenger. As for Carlsen he did chicken out at a time when Anand already has a plus score vs him in Classical Chess.
Gelfand certainly will be a worthy opponent for Anand, and he deserves the chance to play for Championship.
(Also, I’m glad Boris won. 🙂
However, Anonymous is INCORRECT to say that Carlsen chickened out. Magnus Carlsen deserves our thanks for taking a stand against what all the world knows now as the disgraceful format of the recently completed Candidates Matches.
Never before in WC, the winner has been much predictable, perhaps.

Glad you second my opinion ( or I second yours!)that Gelfand is a worthy challenger. I also note your stand that I am incorrect to say that Carlsen chickened out. Yes! Carlsen’s action post the candidates tournament should have a positive effect on the next cycle. However I do feel that Carlsen asking for the World Champion’s privileges to be abolished / curtailed was in BAD TASTE and uncalled for.

Everyone wants to say nice things about Boris….Its not his fault he`s in the finals…(He scored the lucky ticket)..but this can`t be taken seriously…I mean..c,mon! There are at least 10 players more deserving. Fide has lost touch with reality.
Carlsen Kramnik Topalov, Aronin,Raddyabov,Karyakin..etc…it goes on and on. This is a bad thing for chess.

Nigel Short, Garry Kasparov?
The world champion has and adventage in the start, but Boris is a very strong player too… Is not the same situation of Kasparov-Short match! Will be a amazing match! And I vote for Boris. Good Luck!
You must see things in perspective…I feel you lack soma knoeledge of chess history Gelfand has never been among the best three top players. He is clearly a weaker player than Carlesn, Karjakin, Nakamura, etc. all of these young playes who have a great future while Gelfand is not getting any younger as years go past…I do agree with the statement which says that the world championship should be played between the best playes…I canalso say that Carlsen who is only 19 years old has already achieved more in his youuth than Gelfand in his entire life …
To be honest, I can only say that you all must consider that fact that within 10 years, Anand, Topalov or Gelfand will be just chess history, while Carlsen, Karjakin, Nakamura or even Aronian will be still around at the hight of their chess powers …even now they a lot are better than old Gelfand who happens to be a player who has never achieved something more than being 4th in chess ratings. (He is ranked 13 th ) Can anyone imagine Boris playing a 12-game match-up against Carlsen in a few years?…That would be a disaster, so let Gelfand dream about becoming world chess champion…I am pretty sure the young players mentioned above must be laughing at this old peer. Let him dream, let him dream for a while.. Ah… by the way, Carlsen, for instance, has achieved a lot more in his youth than Gelfand in his entire life. Make no mistake: Carlsen will be the best chess player of all times!

kasparov Vs Short …but it never ends 6-0…because anand feel sympathy towards gelfand….. he is not like Bobby fischer ….he loves chess…. so he lost one game against kramnik in 2008… But in 2010…he is not well prepared…so he lost 2 games due to pressure…good luck anand

The future winner is Anand. I have seen and replay their previous games (1989-2011). In their early games Gelfand beats Anand but in the later years Anand easily beats Gelfand. The future result is clear. Anand will surely win.
Nobody can undermine gelfend.but anand is more versatile than him. He is defnitly one of the most outstanding chess player in history like morophy,alakhene,botvinic,capablanca,fisher,kaspoarov and karpov. Still his ability is not diminished. Defnitley he has at least 15% advantage over gelfend.
I see many people under-estimating Gelfand…With the proper preparation anything is possible..
Also, to all the people saying things about Carlsen, Karjakin, etc…in your words they are the future…
I say precisely….they are the “future”. But that doesn’t mean we throw out the present…! If they are so great as so many people think, why are not in the final instead of Gelfand?
Magnus acted in an immature way…he should have won the candidates tournament and then he would have been in a position to make those big statements..He probably realised he is not ready to go up against the big boys like Kramnik and Anand in a match situation just yet…tournaments is one thing, focused matches are another..
Gelfand has proved himself against all the other top players and deserves to be in the final. The chance for the youngsters will definitely come in the ‘future’

Gelfand is an old guy who is worned out and has no future at all. He
is weak, he is weaker than Carlsen or Aronian even in his prime…back
in the early nigjties…..The rating is an objetive measurement of
chess strengh not a mere opinion. Gelfand has never accomplished
something valueble in his entire chess career. It is obvius that the
match between Gelfand and Anand is not interesting at all because this
event is the clash between the fourth player against the 22
secong…..anyone who ask how is it possible that the World
Championship does not involve the strongest players in the world???
Please, try to be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you could
imagine Gelfand being the world champion while we have such strong
players as Carlsen, Aronian, Morozevich, Kramnik, etc.etc….that would be
ridiculuos…terrible..pathetic…..not even Gelfand would feel
comfortable….I bet that Gelfand would not dare call himself world
champion. He is aware that Carlsen is a star of first magnitud as
Kasparov recently said. Regarding the “imature” behavior on Carlsen’s
part….Let me tell you that I am sure that Carlsen does not give a
dam about becoming world champion. The boy isnot interested in being
world champion at all. And that does not mean he is
immature…besides, who are you to judge him..? Your judjement is
based upon the believe that every chess player wants to become world
champion. Evidently, he is beyond that; he is the greatest player the
world has ever known and he is absolutely aware what he is actually
capable of achieving..and he will achieve everything he wants to…but
in time when he wants and the way he wishes to do so…not when you or
me want him to achieve those things. On the other hand, as you should
realize, Carlsen is NOT AFRID OF ANYONE ..he could beat anyone in the
world just take a look at his rating. Gelfand is not half as talented
as Carlsen….in fact I am convinced that Gelfand is just a weak player
who dreams about getting a shot at the tittle which he has already
gotten but …..as I said before….he will be crushed by Anand. If
Carlsen played a match against Gelfand, Carlsen would beat Gelfand
badly let´s say 10 – 2 at least….I can only repeat what I wrote
before….let the Israeli dream..let him dream…..let the old worned
out guy dream he is strong…..just in case you do not know this
fact….the highest position Gelfand ever achieved is 4 th……and do
not forget Gelfand is twice as old as Carlsen……may God
bless him…he will indeed need all the help possible even heavenly
help…and that may not even be enough.
Gelfand is might be old so is anand , but the experience plus the big match experience the both player holds gives them advantage a lot more than this younger people like carlsen , nakamura etc, i think players like anand, kramnik will rule for a decade or so
Gelfand will win. it has nothing to do so much with ability or track record, this battle will be all about who wants it more. You underestimate Gelfand at your peril. He wants it more, is more battle hardened and has every chance of winning. My tip to him, wear that Russian hat you were photographed wearing recently when playing Anand, that should do it.
