Anand fires back at critic Kasparov

Viswanathan Anand’s recent and difficult defense of his world chess title against Boris Gelfand left the Indian grandmaster in an uncharacteristically tense, rather than celebratory, mood.
His narrow victory provoked more than a little unsettling criticism.
Anand was affected. “I think this is the first time I have played a match where so many people seemed to have negative opinions about my play,” he said.
Most notable among his critics was former world champion Garry Kasparov.
Anand’s play has lost motivation, Kasparov observed. In fact, for the past several years, he said, Anand’s play “had been sliding downhill.”
“Vishy is a brilliant player. But it is very difficult to compete at 40,” Kasparov said. “I will be surprised if he can go on any longer.”
With the aplomb of a five-time world champion, Anand seized the opportunity for a counterattack.
“Kasparov retired in 2005, but he was trying to make me retire all through 2011. I am going to disappoint him,” said Anand, laughing.“It seems to me he is a man who regrets leaving chess, who misses the attention.
“This win has boosted my morale. I am looking forward to playing chess and winning tournaments.”

Kasparov was naughty.
Let me say for the tenth time in the last month why I don’t care about Kasparov’s words.
Vishy wait till you play Carlsen or Aronian.
if the 84 match was allowed to continue Karpov would have won a tight match – end of kasparov..Contrary to the belief, Campo’s decision benefitted Kasparov and not karpov.
If he had not done a move takeback, Judith would have beaten him. When she points his takeback – uncivilized guy stops talking to her for years – mind u after being the cheater.
85 and 87 WC games were evenly matched and he did not prove superiority over karpov.
A bad loser, if he loses he would blame his seconds(vladimirov),organisers(FIDE), sponsors(IBM) – whoever..
Hi Susan Polgar,
Anand has always, has the policy to brush aside those comments which are not relevant to him – the style of brushing aside, may differ from time to time but it never torches his cool head – It may torch his negative critics head but not his head – lol
Cool.

You struggled against a mere Gelfand and you insist you’re still at the top of your game? C’mon Anand, get real! At this strength, you’ll never win an event with Carlsen, Aronian, or Kramnik. You’re rating will fall farther from 2800. You’re no longer top gun, whether you accept it or not.

Mere Gelfand!! Wow! What an insult! To Gelfand! Gelfand together with Kramnik was regarded as World Champion material some two decades ago. I wonder how good this ‘Anon’s’ chess is to make such peurile statements.
