There were 3 players, Aronian, Karjakin, and Mamedyarov, who scored 5.5 / 9 at the 2010 Tal Memorial. Tie breaks were used to determine the overall winner. However, an unusual circumstance took place after all the calculations. Aronian and Karjakin have identical tie break scores, both ahead of Mamedyarov. That is because they defeated and drew the same exact players. Therefore, they were declared co-winners.

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Nice job by Karjakin.
A good performance by Nakamura that demonstrates he can hold his own with the super GMs.
What happened to Shirov and Eljanov??
Official sites and all the other Russian sites says 3 winners.
If Aronian and Karjakin had same performance, why is the tournament performance rating different?
I think all the players ended up where they were supposed to….cept maybe Kramnik and Aronian….that ist round game was a tragedy…Kramnik was completely winning…but bleh…thems the breaks..Aronian survived….and even won!!! Bet that game won’t make it into any Aronian games collection. Naka played solidly and did himself credit..good for him. The Bottom four deserved their place as thats actually where they belong.

If Aronian and Karjakin had same performance, why is the tournament performance rating different?
Because they played each other.

That is because they started the tourney with different ratings. That is Aronian’s rating is higher than Karjakin’s rating. Obviously, higher the rating the more is expected so the performance rating differs according to their personal ratings and the Avg rating they face.
Mamedyarov would have taken first without sharing the title under the 3 points win/1 point draw rule.
He would have had 14 points, Karjakin and Aronian would have had 13.
