Tunisia : Algerian Grandmaster Aymen Rizouk wins Monastir chess tournament

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- The nine round Swiss open tournament organized by Ksibet El Mediouni’s chess club , ‘La Tour Blanche’ in the charming seaside resort of Monastir from September 22 to 30, 2009, was won by the rising star of Algerian chess, Grandmaster Aymen Rizouk, who swept over the tournament scoring an impressive 8,5 points.

Algeria’s International Master Mohamed Haddouche came second (7 pts) followed by the Ukrainian Grandmaster Dimitri Komarov with 5,5 points. The Czech Grandmaster Igor Rausis finished 6 th.

Rizouk who faced very little competition during the event, added another feather to his cap when he defeated Komarov in an impressive Queens Indian Declined gambit game.

Tunisia’s Mabrouk Fethi came in 7 th with 5 point followed by the International Master Mejdi Kaabi (4,5).

Rizouk walked away with the 800 Euro first Prize, while the second and third players received respectively 600 and 400 Euros.
