Abu Dhabi: Egyptian International Master (IM) Abdul Hamid Al Arousi won the weekly chess competition organised by the Al Ain Chess and Culture Club, winning all five matches to collect full five points.

The UAE’s Ammar Mohammad Ali won the Best UAE Player Award, finishing second, while Syrian Sufian Haj Mohammad was third.

The weekly tournament was held under the patronage of Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Shakhboot Al Nahyan, the Chairman of the ACCC and the Asian Chess Federation, who presented the trophies and awards to the winners at the end of the event.

The competition was held in implementation of Shaikh Sultan’s ideas to spread and improve the game of chess in Al Ain.

The tournament is open to all locals and expatriates and is held on Saturday every week in the ACCC quest to discover new talent and create new local champions for the future.

The UAE’s Ammar Mohammad Ali, who finished second in the competition, won the Best UAE Player Award.
