Final position

IM Krush – GM Ehlvest [D31]
15.12.2007

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Be7 4.cxd5 exd5 5.Bf4 Nf6 6.e3 0–0 7.Bd3 c5 8.dxc5 Bxc5 9.Nf3 Nc6 10.0–0 d4 11.Ne4 Nxe4 12.Bxe4 dxe3 13.Qc2 exf2+ 14.Kh1 Bb6 15.Bxh7+ Kh8 16.Be4 Bg4 17.Bxc6 bxc6 18.Ng5 g6 19.Rxf2?! (This is an interesting choice. Another possible plan would be to play Be5+ followed by Ne4) Bxf2 20.Qxf2 Kg8 (I would probably have played Qd5. It’s more active and if Qh4 Bh5) 21.h3 f6 22.Ne4 Qd5 23.Re1 Bf5 24.Nd6 Rad8 25.Qh4 Rd7 (A better defense here would be g5 forcing the Queen to go back to g3) 26.Re8 Rxd6? (Ehlvest missed a very clever defense with Rf7! This would hold the attack and maintaining the material advantage. White still has some tricks left but this gives Black chances to win. The played line ended in an immediate draw) 27.Re7 Rf7 28.Re8+ Game drawn ½–½
