1. Qf5! + Kxf5
2. Nd3+ Kf6
3. Nxd5+ and mate on e7
That is 2. Ne3+ of course
1.Qf5+ Kxf5
2.Ne3+ Kf6
comes to my mind, but then I’m missing the final blow. 3.Ng4+ just doesn’t work becaue black can just give up the queen.
Ok now I see it:
1.Qf5+ Kxf5
2.Ne3+ Kf6
3.Nxd5+ Rxd5 {forced}
4.Ne7+ Kf6
5.Nxg8+ Kf5
6.Ne7+
and it’s perpetual, not mate.
Sorry its more complicated since
after:
3. Nxd5 Rxd5
4. Ne7+ Kf6
5. Nxg8 Kf5
6. Ne7+ Kf6
7. Nxd5+ Kf5
8. g4++
Yes, you beat me again. I saw that white can take the other rook too and then mates 🙂
A really cool puzzler indeed.
1.Qf5+ Kxf5
2.Ne7+ Rxe7 (2…Kf6 3.Nxg8+ Kf5 4.Ne3#)
3.Ne3+ Kf6
4.Nxd5+ Kf5
5.Nxe7+ Kf6
6.Nxg8+ Kf5
7.Ne7+ Kf6
8.Nd5+ Kf5
9.g4#
Pharaoh
Did you guys (egaion, ebutaljib) drop a move-pair in your notation? “4.Ne7+” isn’t a check, and loses on the spot to 4…Qh8#.
Obviously we mixed up the moves 🙂
Nice puzzle! Powerful knights!
Thanks Susan!
