The idea is right but after 2.Qg1, black saves with 2.. Ng5. Winning with Q+N vs Q is impossible unless there is a forced line to win the queen. However, after 3.Qg5 Kf7 white does not have such a forced line.
After ..Ng5, white should be able to check on the 8th rank, after which ..Kf7 Nxg5+ is trivially won.
Therefore:
1.Qc3 Kg8 (1.. Ne5 2.Qe5 Kg8 3.Qe8)
2.Qg3 Kh8 (now 2.. Ng5 3.Qb8 Kf7 4.Ng5)
3.Qb8 Qg8
