The World Youth Chess Championship 2008 has ended but the accolades still come pouring in! Many are in post cards and hand written thank you notes. The following is a sample e-mail to the Technical Director!

Dear Mr. Leong,

My daughter, Karsten McVay, and I recently returned from Vietnam where Karsten represented the U.S.A. in the Girls Under-16 division at the WYCC 2008.

Karsten and Ijust wanted to thank you for all the planning, hard work and time you and your staff put in to organize the World Youth Chess Championships. We wereSO impressed by how well-run the tournament was and by your country’s wonderful hospitality which made us feel so welcome!!! Everyone from the hotel staff (we stayed at the DIC Star Hotel) to all the volunteers were so nice and willing to go “out on a limb” for us. Although this was my daughter’s fourth WYCC tournament, this was the first time I had accompanied her while my husband stayed at home with our other two children. I described in detail to my husband thefantastic and extravagant welcome we got at the Opening Ceremony and so many other things that had been done to make our stay more enjoyable. My husband was very impressed and wished he could have been in Vietnam to witnessour wonderful experience first-hand. Karsten (and I) were very honored that she was able to represent the U.S. A. at the WYCC. You and your staff helped make our experience in Vietnam an experience we will never forget and one that we will cherish forever.

Thank you again for a job that was MORE than well done!!!
Best,
Kimberly Doo McVay and Karsten McVay
