I am sad to report that Duncan Oxley, a friend and a wonderful chess volunteer, has recently passed away. Duncan was recently nominated and selected as the USCF Volunteer of the Month. He certainly deserved that award. He has given so much to chess and he will be sorely missed by many. My sincere condolences to his family.
Duncan was very passionate about building chess at the Marina Library.

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
RIP Duncan! Thanks for everything you did for chess.
Just one clarification, Susan. Duncan was not just nominated for volunteer of the month. He was selected. This occurred prior to his untimely death, and the recognition is well deserved.
I’m deeply saddened by Duncan’s passing. Though I’m not sure if I ever met him in person, I had a lot of online contact with him in my work on the FOC.
I was very surprised to hear this news. Just a few weeks ago he was very excited about getting a new laptop, and being able to get back to his ICC and USCF moderator duties.
He will be missed.
May his spirit rest in peace.
All of the volunteer managers on ICC are deeply saddened about this. Duncan was a great friend and mentor to them, having trained a great many. There are plans to run a memorial tournament on ICC for him. I knew him through ICC for many years, and like so many other people I got nothing but a great impression of him. I hope word gets through to his family and non-chess friends what a huge and greatly positive impact he had.
