This was an incredible project that was put together by Dr. Mikhail Korenman, with the assistance of the city of Lindsborg and the state of Kansas! To be able to bring former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev and WC Anatoly Karpov to Lindsborg (a town of 3,000 residence) for this monumental and historic chess event was an incredible accomplishment! I hope you will support Dr. Korenman in the upcoming USCF Executive Board Election. He has an incredible passion for chess and his integrity is second to none. He will be a MAJOR asset for the USCF!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
I intend to vote for Dr. Korenman. It’s amazing to see the difference between your slate and the rest of the candidates. All of you do so much and others play politics while members and volunteers are being threaten with lawsuits. I’m so fed up with these current board members. Why don’t they just resign if they can’t do the job right?
Good job Misha!
That was a wonderful initiative. Chess needs more of that!
Just for the record,
Mikhail Gorbachyov was never President of Russia, but General Secretary of the CPSU (the Communist Party of the Soviet Union), ie the leader of the Soviet Union.
Mikhail Gorbachev is former Soviet Union president, not Russia
Interesting that a game modelled on two conflicting states is used as a vehicle for peace.
I don’t think it’s a bad idea, because chess does have trans-national status, but there is a certain irony here.
