Mexico defeated Brazil in soccer to win the Gold medal for the first time at the London Olympic.

On the same weekend, Grandmaster Manuel Leon Hoyos, a freshman at Webster University, and Mexican Champion, scored 8-1 to win the 113th US Open Championship. It is truly an excellent weekend for Mexico.

Even though Brazil only got the Silver medal in soccer at the London Olympic, Grandmaster Andre Diamant, a sophomore at Webster University, and former Brazilian Champion, won the 2012 US Open Blitz Championship, and tied for 1st with his teammate, IM Vitaly Neimer, at the US Open g/15 Championship.
