Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Inflation.
World number 6 (now 7) and world champion Vishy Anand should learn from world number 2 and 40 points higher rated Levon Aronian. Sacrificing his rating chances, he played for his nation and won the Olympiad for them for the third time ahead of Russia. Anand would have a similarly strong team mates in Sasi, Hari, Negi and Gupta. The greatest thing for Aronian is he was rewarded with a Gold medal at the TOP board and even won 5 rating points.
It’s hard to deny that ELO ratings are being inflated.
no inflation because todays players are stronger. they learn from past generations. have instant access to games and theory database. have computer to improve their skill. more countries and larger genetic pool(viet china india …). much more number chess competitions at all levels. today top 50 win easy top 50 20-40 years before. no inflation but simply fact.
