The 89th Hastings International Chess Congress is taking place from 28th December 2013 to 5th January 2014. The Congress is sponsored by the Hastings Borough Council.
The main event is the Masters Tournament with 94 participants from 24 federations. The Masters will be completed over nine rounds of Swiss system with accelerated pairings. Prizes: £2000, £1200, £750, £500, £350, £250, £200.
Top rated participants are GM Mchedlishvili Mikheil GEO 2649, GM Khenkin Igor GER 2598, GM Ma Qun CHN 2595, GM Tomczak Jacek POL 2569 and GM Hebden Mark ENG 2560.
The Congress will also include a 4-round Christmas Tournament, 5-round New Year Morning and New Year Afternoon events as well as the 31st Hastings Weekend congress.
