FIDE gives Iranian 8-year-old title of master

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has given the title of chess master to an 8-year-old Iranian chess player, Seyyed Mohammad Amin Tabatabaei.

According to the IRIB, Tabatabaei was awarded the title on Saturday.

The Iranian player won the 2009 World School Championship in Thessaloniki, Greece, held April 26-May 4, 2009.

Tabatabaei earned the bronze medal after he placed third in the 2009 World Youth Chess Championship held in Kemer-Antalya, Turkey, November 11-23, 2009.

Headquartered in Athens, Greece, the World Chess Federation is known by the acronym of its French title, Federation Internationale des Echecs.
