Eight Cuban chess players go to Continental Tournament in Brazil

Eight Cuban chess players are already among those 223 pre-registered competitors to the upcoming Continental Chess Championship that will be held this Saturday in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo that count on six world vacancies to be disputed.

Great Chess Master (GM) Julio Granda from Peru, champion of this tournament two years ago, is leading the World Chess Federation (FIDE) web América, where names like Cuban Great Masters such as Fidel Corrales, Yuniesky Quesada and Holden Hernández are also displayed.

Great Masters Neuris Delgado and Luis Manuel Pérez, Vivian Ramón, along with International Great Master Rodney Pérez are also included in the chess Cuban delegation.

Cuban chess player Lázaro Bruzón, who already enjoys a vacancy to participate in the upcoming World Chess Cup scheduled for November, would allow him to try to repeat his victory carried out in Argentina 2005.

Known as local Great Masters Giovanni Vescoci and Rafael Leitao, Joan Ehlvest from United States, Kevin Spragget from Canada, Rubén Felgaer from Argentina are also mentioned among those who are part of this chess competition.

This chess tournament that will be inaugurated next Saturday, counts on 11 rounds ruled by the Swiss chess system, along with extra untie rounds if that could be necessary during the closing evening date.
