Six countries confirm attendance to chess championship in Bolivia

LA PAZ, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) — The Bolivian Chess Federation (FBA) said on Sunday that six countries have confirmed their attendance to the 7th South American Festival of Chess Youth, to be hosted from Dec. 1 to 6 in Sucre’s Olympic Village in Bolivia.

FBA president Alfonso Ferrufino told the press that they expect the championship to be hosted with 200 chess players in the categories under-8, under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18.

The countries which already confirmed their attendance are Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia.

“We wait for Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia and Venezuela to confirm their participation in the three coming days, because it will be an important South American championship for the region,” Ferrufino said.

To the date there are 157 registered players, after the Peruvian delegation with 64 players, the second largest is Chile with 37 and the third is Bolivia with 34.

According to the FBA some of the smallest delegations are Brazil with 12, Argentina with three and Paraguay with seven.

Each country could register one official players, who would be its national champion in its category.

Ferrufino said that there will be four international and 16 local referees.

“We are going to show the organization and competition levels that Bolivia have, we trust on performing a good role in this international championship,” he added.
