Tommy faced a tough opponent in the last round. He played his opponent Yash in another National and they had a marathon draw. This game went to a 73 move Rook and pawn endgame marathon. It was the last game in the grade 2 section. Both had 5.5 / 6 entering this round. Tommy finally squeezed out a win to capture the National Grade 2 Championship title. But Tommy is sad that he did not have a chance to play his friend Christopher Wu, the youngest All-American in the US and the best in the country.

What a game! I am very impressed by his level of play and it is amazing he is only in the 2nd grade! Felicitations on your well earned victory and I am sure this will be the first of many more to come!

Impressive play…. he could have finished the game earlier at least a piece up.
38…. Kd8?
39.RxN if KxN
40.Bb4+ forking the black rook
Still a future Polgar champion!
Woot! Congratulations Tommy! 😀
Congratulations Tommy!!!! yes same impression 39. Rxe7 would have made his job 30 moves less work but very impressive PATIENCE and SKILL from a youngster. I think he has tremendous ability. Im sure he put a smile on his mom’s face 🙂 Wow great day! Leeam even finished with a strong victory. Im so glad for him also!
Congrats Tommy!
Friends, games and fun: chess can really be a big family ;o)
Gad this is really impressive. Not what I expected at all from a 2nd grade level. Especially how he tore apart the kside to a winning rook pawn endgame.
He should feel really good…get Wu another day!
…and then Chris did win his game which helped push Tom to the winner circle rather than tying for first
It warms your heart to see kids go from an even rook endgame to being three pawns up. Primary tourneys are chaotic like nothing else.
Yes, too bad he missed 39.Rxe7. But at least he saw in time that 42.Bxe7+? fails to 42…Kc8 trapping his Rook. An impressive game for someone his age.
“I am very impressed by his level of play”
Why? His mother is World Champion Player and Coach! You wouldn’t expect anything less. Tommy will be champion of USA many times and later be a coach to children teaching them how to be champions too.
It’s a year 2029.
Tommy Polgar has no real human player equal chess oponent on this planet.
However,IBM-company constructed new cyborg machine with a mixture of human intuition and computer calculating power.
It plays at level of about 3300 ElO.
Will Tommy manage to held it to a draw?
