Chess mates have the right moves

YOUNG chess players at a Woodston school have been taking part in a national competition. Pupils at Nene Valley Primary School, in Sugar Way, were invited to enter the British Land UK Chess Challenge.

More than 70,000 young people across the country take part in the event every year making it the biggest chess tournament in the world.

In the first stage of the tournament, pupils compete against their friends in school and are awarded points for victories.

Seven of the 16 players at Nene Valley Primary School earned enough points to be able to compete in the next round of the event.
