Kamsky, The Comeback Kid (now Man)
Tough call, I’d say probably Shirov.
Kamsky will win!!
when i read all these historical comments by mister national US , i WANT SHIROV TO WIN WIN AND WIN
Hello,
It takes a genuine Grandmaster or IM to answer the question…it might not be a good answer but, hey, I’ll try.
In my opinion, I believe GM Kamsky will win this tournament. I do not think the majority of people who read this blog have such a high rating that they can REALLY talk of GM Kamsky’s “opening weaknesses” (including myself) with any real knowledge. It takes a true GM to truly understand what another GM might be thinking.
Shirov is an extremely good chess Grandmaster. Period. Yet, GM Kamsky has shown in this tournament that he has both prepared and is ready to take on the absolute best.
I think his positive attitude, combine with his super-GM status and chess knowledge will lead him to victory in this tournament.
Of course, I could be wrong. And, if GM Kamsky were to come in 2nd place, I think we all can say that he has really done a wonerful job and so did Carlsen.
But, GM Kamsky is revealing something about himself…something quite deep and profound…in this tournament that has not been shown in previous tournaments.
He has proves he can play at the WCC level. I respect this regardless of who wins.
I believe he will defeat Shirov. “one step at a time,” as the old adage goes. I think Kamsky is quite capable of defeating Topalov. Will he? I don’t know. No one knows. Yet, he is a great player and so are the rest.
Upsets happen. I believe (and I freely admit it’s my own opinion) that GM Kamsky could, just possibly, be the WCC. A part of me doubt it…but, he is nevertheless a great player and has proven it in this tournament.
Good luck GM Kamsky.
Tough call. 55:45 for Shirov.
Shirov shows excellent form, excellent preparation, confidence, calculation, one could say WC skills 🙂
Very often the draws he made were “lost points”, not “winning points”.
But Kamsky has one day more to prepare and recover, so only 55:45 and not 65:35.
Some stats about the 2 players:
In this tournament:
They have both played 14 games.
They have both gone into tiebreak only once.
Shirov has won 2 more games than Kamsky. But competition has been tougher for Kamsky:
Shirov’s average opp. – 2639
Kamsky’s average opp. – 2656
Shirov has already eliminated 2 americans (Onischuk & Shulman).
Kamsky has eliminated 3 2700+ players, including a 2732 player.
SHIROV VS. KAMSKY:
1996 & earlier: They are tied with 6 wins and 8 draws.
After 1996: They have played 3 times, all of them on Nov’2007
2 blitz (each one won 1 game -with white) and only 1 standard game, that Shirov won due to Kamsky hanging a Knight.
I’m rooting for Kamsky, but I’d say it’s 55%-45% for Shirov.
Actually, 69% of us got it right. I lied when I voted.
