There was a double success for Millfield School as pupils Peter Poobalasingam and Sarah Hegarty took the plaudits at the Tera Final, the climax to the British Land UK Chess Challenge, held at North Leamington Community School on the 18th and 19th August.
Poobalasingam won the event to take the title of STRAT and top prize of £2000. He had previously been runner up in 2003, 2005 and 2006 and started with five straight wins. Hegarty shared the prize for the highest place female player.
Millfield, known as a centre of sporting excellence offers a chess scholarship worth up to £65,000 and the chess activities at the school are supervised by Grandmaster Matthew Turner.

Hello Susan this is not a comment on the topic its just a question about a chess dvd. I would like to purchase a chess dvd on the d4 opening system from chessbase. I have bought your dvd’s ‘Winning Chess The Easy Way’ Victor Korchnoi’s ‘My Life For Chess’. But I respect your opinion on all chess topics so I ask what dvd from chessbae would you recommend from Chessbase on the d4 systems? There is 1 by IM Andrew Martin but I purchased The Ruy Lopez system from him and dont like him as say Garry Kasparovs ‘mr kasparovs how to play the Najdorf volume 1’. I read all purchases benefit The USCF so I figure you’re the person to ask. I am just an intermediate player.
Thank you, John
Susan thnk you so very much for giving me those thoughtful suggestions. You have real class!!!
