The 59th Top League Russian Championship is taking place on September 2-12, 2006 in Tomsk, Russia. The players must earn their spots through qualifying events or have ratings of 2575 and above based on the January 2006 rating list.

The format is Swiss system with time control of 40 / 100 – 20 / 50 – SD 10 with 30 seconds increment starting move 1. The prize fund is $100,000. The top 7 finishers will be seeded to the Russian Superfinal.
