47th Canadian Open Championship is taking place in Toronto, Ontario July 10-18.
This year Canadian Open Chess Championship is sponsored by Deloitte, Manulife and DVN Lexus / Toyota. More than 260 players from Canada and around the world are battling for $32,000 in cash prizes and bragging rights at the beautiful Westin Harbour Castle on Toronto’s lake front.
GM Luke McShane (ENG) is leading the field of 262 players (7GMs, 7IMs, 13 FMs) with 4/4 in the 9 round FIDE rated event. Games take place evenings (except for the final weekend).

During the day, there are many side events: Grandmaster simultaneous exhibitions and lectures; 960 chess simultaneous exhibition introducing Starter Dice by Q-Workshop.com; double chess tournament; National Federation Meeting, FIDE Arbiter Seminar; and a children’s chess day camp. Still to come are the speed chess tournament and a blindfold simultaneous exhibition by FM Hans Jung.
